The Lawyer Who Built A Firm On Referrals — Then Taught The Renegades
We build practices that make you a hero to your family and an icon to your community.
Forty-Plus Years Of Law, And A Why That Sharpened

Ben Glass
I have practiced personal injury, life insurance, and ERISA long-term disability law in Fairfax, Virginia, since 1983, and I founded BenGlassLaw in 1995. I built it the way I now teach — on referrals and relationships, not on outspending anyone — and I have never looked back.
On February 10, 2005, I started Great Legal Marketing because nobody was showing solo and small-firm owners how to grow without selling their lives to the billable hour or their budgets to Google. I have written 14 books along the way, and I am widely regarded as America’s premier authority on ethical, outside-the-box marketing for solo and small-firm lawyers.
But the firm has always been a means, not the end. I am Dad to nine kids — four adopted from China — and I have been married to Sandi for 45 years. I train CrossFit, referee soccer on the weekends, and in 2024 I survived a triple bypass. That last one sharpened the why behind everything I teach: a law practice should fund the life you want, not consume it.
What I Believe About Your Practice
- You should have more clients magnetically attracted to your firm than you can realistically take on.
- Solo and small law firm owners should not do the same marketing that the big firms do.
- Advertising should never feel expensive, because you should have a reliably consistent response rate and ROI.
- Your firm should not take away from your family and/or personal life.
- You have one life to live, and that life is meant to be lived in joy, not misery.
That is the entire reason GLM exists — to put those beliefs to work in your firm. If any of it lands, the fastest way to see how we do it is to read the book.

On Working With Ben
“Ben is the rare teacher who actually does the work. He is not a marketer playing lawyer; he is a lawyer who learned marketing and kept practicing.”
Michele LewaneInjured Workers Law Firm“Everything Ben teaches, he has tested in his own firm first. That is why I listen. The receipts are real.”
Mace YampolskyMace Yampolsky & Associates“Ben gave me permission to build a firm that fits my life instead of one that runs it. That changed everything for me.”
